Almost
40 years ago, a group of Zionsville citizens formed the Off-Main Street
Players, a community theatre group dedicated to presenting high-quality
productions that featured local talent. The group’s first show, Bell,
Book and Candle premiered on September 9, 1966.
Today,
a new generation of Zionsville and Boone County residents has re-formed
The Off-Main Street Players with the goal of offering local actors,
directors, and others with an interest in theatre the opportunity to
use their talents to entertain and educate others.
The
new Off-Main Street Players’ first production—Neil Simon’s Plaza
Suite—premiered on September 9, 2005, 39 years to the day
after the original group’s premiere production.
Today’s
Off-Main Street Players are unique in that the group focuses on
encouraging theatre as an avocation rather than a vocation. Rehearsal
schedules will be designed with the needs of parents, students and busy
professionals in mind. Auditions and performances are promoted locally,
to encourage those in Zionsville, Lebanon and surrounding areas to
participate and attend.
The mission of the Off-Main Street Players
is threefold:
- To
allow citizens of Zionsville and Boone County to develop and
showcase their abilities by using local talent to the greatest possible
extent
- To be recognized as an essential part of
the
cultural community by producing shows that aim for the highest levels
of technical and artistic achievement
- To engage a
wide variety of community members by producing at least one
family-friendly production each season
By
diligently working to achieve this mission, we hope to provide maximum
value to our community, our cast and crew members, and our supporters.
